What to expect from therapy
I offer a confidential and structured space to explore what may be feeling overwhelming, distressing or difficult in your life. We begin with an initial assessment to understand your concerns, current symptoms and goals. Together, we develop a shared understanding of what may be maintaining the difficulties and agree on a personalised treatment plan.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) involves examining the relationship between your thoughts, feelings and behaviour patterns, and identifying ways to break unhelpful or negative cycles. We will focus on your present concerns and you will have time to talk through, explore, and we may also address earlier traumatic experiences that may be contributing to current anxiety or distress and find ways to manage these moving forward.
A typical course of CBT ranges from 6–20 sessions. As everyone’s needs are different, some people may benefit from additional sessions. We will discuss this collaboratively to ensure the most effective plan to meet your needs. Sessions will last 50 minutes and are typically held weekly, although fortnightly and one-off sessions can also be considered as progress stabilises.
Longer term integrative work can also be provided, where there is complexity, comorbidity and developmental trauma. Children and young people may also require a more gradual pace.
After your initial enquiry, we will have a short telephone conversation to understand what has brought you to therapy and assess your current needs. From there, I can arrange your first assessment session, and we can together agree your scheduled treatment plan moving forward.
Your safety and wellbeing are my priority. I am an accredited and registered therapist, fully insured, and hold an enhanced DBS certificate, ensuring professional and secure care throughout your therapy journey.
